An earthy wedding!

Another idea for wedding themes.

I love the thought of doing a forest/earthy theme for a wedding.

Source: Top right: mushroom cake, flowers, bird cake topper, ivory bird cake, yellow bird cake, moss wreath, terrarium centerpiece, favor sticker, birdcage centerpiece, blue invitation, red invitation, potted centerpiece, moss ring pillow

I think the whole idea is so romantic while still being elegant.

I promise…

I promise to fix the broken pictures in some of my previous posts!  Sometime soon I will find time and repair the pictures!  Sorry!

Everyone Says the First year is the Hardest

We keep hearing this.  From all over the place, wedding blogs, friends, family, etc..  We were prepared for things to be more difficult once we got married because we heard this over and over.  It isn’t.  The other day I said to my mom “are we doing something wrong?  Are we not taking it seriously enough?  It’s supposed to be hard… and it isn’t “.  Everything is the same as it was before we got married… only better!!!

I guess I hadn’t really thought about it until I started talking to a friend who has been married for a month.  She is unhappy… super unhappy.  That idea is completely foreign to me.  I was under the impression that everyone feels the way Mr. G and I do…  at least for a while after they are married.  It makes me sad to think that that isn’t the case for everyone.  It also makes me extremely thankful for my relationship.  We are so happy.  Everything is so easy.  EVERYTHING!  Even I think it’s strange… in the best possible way!  I can’t imagine being happier than I currently am.  Well, that isn’t entirely true.  I would be happier if I saw my husband more.  He works in politics and it is election season so he works 7 days a week and until late at night.  Only for a few more weeks!  We both knew that it would happen that he would have to work A LOT come election season… we just didn’t know it would be so hard!  I am proud of how hard he works and how completely committed he is to the cause!  It is a running joke with him that he uses the quote from The Godfather where he says ” this is the business we’ve chosen”.  It’s true, and I chose him!

Our Butterfly Wedding Cake!

In a previous post, I wrote about the inspiration for our cake.  These two pictures pretty much sum it up.

Butterfly Cake

I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of our cake.  Mr. G’s friend Meg was arriving nice and early to drop it off.  I was upstairs when he called up to me to say that she was here.  I ran down stairs and there she was!

Brunch Pictures 234

I was soooooooo excited to see it and it was totally awesome!!  Before we put all the butterflies on it, this is what it looked like.

My oldest sister helped me open all of the butterflies and figure out how I wanted them.  Then I went to work putting them on the cake.  It stressed me out a little having to poke the wires in to that perfectly smooth and amazing cake.  What if I messed it up?!?!

Finally, I finished putting all the butterflies on the cake.  I went a little crazy with the butterflies and ended up having way more than I needed.  My mom walked around and put a butterfly in each of the centerpieces.  It looked super cute.  This is the final product!!!!

We were both so happy with it.  I couldn’t possibly thank Meg enough for how amazing it was!!!  To make it even better, it was super tasty!  Vanilla cake with orange buttercream!

The cake was exactly what I wanted!!!!  It was PERFECT!!!

I’m a little bummed.

There are some days that I end up being a little sad about how things worked out.  Today is one of those days.  I am so excited to be married to Mr. G, I just wish things had happened a little differently.  We don’t at all regret the decision we made.  Of the choices we had, this was definitely the best.  It just makes me sad that I won’t ever get to wear a giant, over the top wedding dress and that I won’t get to implement all of my good ideas.  We had our brunch this weekend and it was wonderful, but at the same time it made me a little sad.  It’s hard when you are doing a seating chart and you realize that you only have 3 family members and a brother in law coming from your family.  Sometimes it just stings a little.  Not too much, just a little.  I’m sure as time goes on it will happen less often.  Maybe we will throw an awesome party for our 5 year anniversary.

Cake Buffets

Really this post is about cake plates… but in the context of cake buffets.  It think cake buffets are the cutes idea for a less formal event!!!

cakebuffet

I love the way they look and the options they give your guests.  The best part of them (aside from tasty and delicious cake) is the cake stands.  I collected some of the cake stands that I think would be super cute in a buffet.  Enjoy!

I think that I will have to plan some sort of event some time soon with a cake buffet!

Butterfly Wedding Cake

We are having a brunch this weekend so that everyone can celebrate our marriage since we eloped.  I am excited about it.  One of the things that I am super excited about is the cake.  Mr. G has a friend that volunteered to make us a cake.  He (Mr. G not the friend) of course, was super apprehensive about this because in his words I’m “a cake snob”.  Eventually when he got around to telling me that she had offered I was excited because I knew exactly what I wanted and it was VERY simple.

Like a million other brides, I fell in love with this cake when I saw it on the cover of Martha Stewart Weddings!

Everything about it was awesome!!!  Simple but impactfull all at the same time.  I’m not worried about Mr.G’s friend making this cake.  All we need is a simple white fondant cake and I’m positive she can do that.  We are going to have vanilla cake with orange buttercream filling.  Hooray!!!

So when I decided to do this cake I figured that instead of all of the colors, I would do one color in a variety of shades and designs.

Similar to this cake:

Naturally I chose yellow since that matches everything else we are doing.  Wow it was difficult to find yellow feather butterflies!!!  There are tons of options for sets that have a mix of colors but I was super limited when it came to only getting yellow.

I placed an order with soaringcrafts.com for the following butterflies:

I also placed an order on craftsfeathersfloral.com for these butterflies:

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the butterflies.  I received some of them but decided I needed more so am waiting on those.  Today, when I decided that I would need more, I did my usual google image search but decided to be more diligent.  Eventually, on something like the 37th page I found a link to http://www.floralsupply.com/cat.cgi?s=butterfly.  Boy was I disappointed that I didn’t find them sooner!  I would most definitely have purchased all of them from here if I had known.  I could have saved a bit on shipping and found exactly what I wanted.  I was going to place an order today but since I procrastinated I would need it delivered two day.  I was APPALLED that the shipping on my order of 42 butterflies the 2 day shipping would cost me $50!!!!!  Seriously?!?  The package would weigh less than 2lbs!  I was sad… super sad.  As much as I have been able to justify spending money for the brunch since we didn’t have a wedding, I couldn’t justify that!!!  Oh well.  Maybe I will help some bride find them a bit more easily than I did!  After Sunday I will post some pictures of what I hope is going to be a fantastic cake!!

Engagement Pictures… Well Kind Of!!!

I’m so excited to share these!!!  We got our engagement pictures and they are amazing!!!!  There aren’t enough exclamation points to express how psyched I am about them.  I have been excited to see them since we did the shoot.  Our photographer was so much fun.  His name is Joe Sanfilippo and he was fantastic!!!  Despite the fact that Mr. G was not excited to do this, because he hates pictures, we had a great time.

Although we haven’t received our CD yet, I have looked at them in his proofing gallery and he was nice enough to post some on his blog.  Of the ones that he posted, these are my favorites!

So far, those are our favorites.  There are a few others that are super “us” so we love them too, but obviously they weren’t the best pictures so I will share them when we get our CD.

Headbands in every imaginable fabric!

I posted a link in my entry about damask wedding ideas to stylishmode.com.  I figured I would just throw it out there that no matter what your theme is, if you are doing any type of pattern, they have everything!

And of course, they have damask and a million other fabrics too.  It would make for the cutest accessory for bridesmaids!

Polka Dot Wedding Theme

Despite the fact that we aren’t having a real wedding I still have all these ideas so I thought I would share them.

I kind of like the idea of a polka dot theme.  I know that it can go a little over the top but I figured I would post a bunch of ideas here.  All together they are a bit much but I think used sparingly they would be fantastic!

First off, this dress is amazing.  I actually posted about it when I was writing about my dress

Michelle-Roth- dress

The next dress is from the Sposa by St. Pucchi line.  I LOVE it.  It is a little less polka dotted but I think it would still fit in to the theme well and the veil is amazing.

There, of course, is the fantastic one from Carolina Herrera’s 2004 collection but I’m not even posting it because it is too wonderful and doesn’t exist anymore so it would just be mean.  She does have a few that have polka dots in her Spring 2010 collection.

That one isn’t my favorite but I ike that it is nontraditional.

On to the grooms attire.  I think it is easy enough to find polka dotted ties, but just in case, here you go.

That site has polka dotted ties in LOTS of colors.

Throw in an awesome pair of shoes for the bride.

And add some cool socks for the groom and it would make for awesome pictures!

On to some more fun stuff!  The invitations!

There are tons of good options.  Here are a few I found.

pink invites

green invites

orange invites

Ok, despite the fact that there are a million more invites that I like, I should stop there.  I already listed too many.

I have a bit of an obsession with wedding cakes so now I have 5 million cakes that are amazing to share!

I didn’t find a ton of options for centerpieces that incorporate polka dots but it wouldn’t be hard to add some dotted ribbon to make a centerpiece tie in.

I thought that this bouquet was wonderful!  I think it is elegant and fun at the same time.

I hope that this inspires someone or at least makes it easier to find some of this stuff.  Love having everything in one place!
